FAQs
While visiting New Zealand should I take the Cook Strait ferry or fly between islands?
The ferry is scenic and lets you take your own vehicle, but it uses most of a day. A short flight and a second rental car often save time on a tight schedule.
What should overseas drivers visiting New Zealand know?
New Zealanders drive on the left. Expect narrow winding roads, one-lane bridges and gravel side roads, and allow more time than your map app suggests.
Should I hire a car or a campervan while visiting New Zealand?
A car with motels or holiday homes is easier on winding roads and often cheaper. A campervan gives freedom, but plan where you can stay overnight, as freedom camping is restricted in many places.
