The "Soul Revival" Itinerary: 3 Days in the Coromandel

Updated: Feb 19

Day 1: The Northern Stillness (Colville)

Focus: Silence, Mindfulness, and Untouched Nature

  • Morning: Drive north through the winding coastal roads to Colville. The journey itself is a meditation as the road hugs the coastline.

  • Midday: Arrive at the Mahamudra Centre. Start with a slow walk through the stupa gardens. Enjoy your complimentary tea and join a midday guided meditation to "empty the cup" of your daily stresses.

  • Afternoon: Drive a little further north to Port Jackson or Fletcher Bay. This is the edge of the world; there is very little cell service here. Walk a portion of the Coromandel Walkway to feel the raw power of the Pacific Ocean.

  • Evening: Stay in a simple eco-cabin in Colville or at the Mahamudra retreat accommodation to maintain the quietude.

Day 2: Expression and Elevation (Mana & Coromandel Town)

Focus: Connection, Creativity, and Panoramic Views

  • Morning: Head to Mana Retreat Centre. Check their schedule for a casual morning workshop. Perhaps a session of "Kirtan" (devotional singing) or a movement class to wake up the body.

  • Lunch: Visit Coromandel Town. Eat at a local organic café and browse the many pottery studios. The town is famous for its "alternative" spirit and local artisans who have lived off-grid for decades.

  • Afternoon: Take a ride on the Driving Creek Railway. While it’s a train ride, the vision of its founder, Barry Brickell, was one of total harmony between art and nature (he replanted thousands of native trees). The "Eyefull Tower" at the top offers a perspective-shifting view of the Hauraki Gulf.

  • Evening: Drive across the "309 Road." Stop at the Waiau Falls for a quick dip in the fresh, cool stream, forest bathing is a traditional way to cleanse the energy before heading to the east coast.

Day 3: The Deep Soak (Whitianga)

Focus: Indulgence, Thermal Healing, and Integration

  • Morning: Visit Otama Beach or Opito Bay. These are some of the quietest, whitest sands in New Zealand. Walk barefoot on the sand (earthing) and let the salt air clear your lungs.

  • Midday: Arrive at The Lost Spring in Whitianga. Give yourself at least 3 to 4 hours here.

    • The Ritual: Soak in the 16,000-year-old mineral waters, moving from the warmer pools to the cooler ones.

    • The Treat: Book a "Treetop Massage" to work out any remaining physical tension.

  • Late Afternoon: Enjoy a platter and a fresh juice (or a cocktail) delivered right to the poolside.

  • Evening: Finish your journey with a sunset walk along Buffalo Beach, reflecting on the internal shifts of the last three days.

Pro-Tips for your Retreat:

  • The 309 Road: It’s a gravel road shortcut between the west and east coasts. Take it slow—it’s home to free-roaming pigs and beautiful patches of ancient Kauri trees.

  • Booking: While Mahamudra often welcomes drop-ins, Mana workshops and The Lost Spring treatments require advance booking to avoid disappointment.
